DR. MARY BARBERA

Speaker Background
When Mary Barbera’s son, Lucas, was diagnosed with autism in 1999, she had little knowledge about the disorder. Soon after his diagnosis, Mary explored every option and quickly started an ABA program. She went on to become a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), wrote a best-selling book (The Verbal Behavior Approach), earned a PhD, and started an online training program for professionals and parents.
Presentation Overview
During this presentation Mary will talk about key lessons she has learned in her 17-year autism journey, and how she has always expected more for her son and her clients.
Mary will also give an overview of her book: The Verbal Behavior Approach: How to Teach Children with Autism and Related Disorders, highlighting several strategies that can be used immediately to begin to assess and teach children with autism.
In addition to providing participants with specific ways to improve positive behaviors such as language, this workshop will review ABA principles that should be used to decrease or eliminated problem behaviors such as hitting and crying.
